The weekend of August 8-9 will
live for a long time in the memory of Peter Shlager and the Gordon Bowling Club. Peter,
who began his bowls career at Gordon in July 2007, won the Zone 9 section of the
"2009 Rookie of the Year", an event open to bowlers of less than 30 months
experience. Displaying his trophy "The Pymble Bell" at the club, Peter spoke of his pride in wearing the Green and White as he pitted himself against bowlers from larger and highly rated clubs to win all six games and secure the title, Peter advances to the State Rookies Final at Raymond Terrace in October, where we are sure he will again show his talent. Congratulations Peter! The trophy itself has a colourful history. The bell served for many years at the former Pymble Bowling Club, but some can trace its origins back to World War 2 Diggers in Egypt and a donkey race! |
