Peter Larcombe Wins Inaugural "Geoff Nelson Trophy"

In recognition of Geoff Nelson's monumental achievements on behalf of the club, the men's most prized trophy - for the Club Singles Champion - has been named in his honour.

Fittingly, Geoff himself was there to make the presentation to the 2010 winner, Peter Larcombe, at our Trophy Presentation Day on February 26, 2011.

In accepting the trophy, Peter gave thanks to many people and explained some of the secrets to his success, including the wearing of green and a diet of toasted ham and cheese sandwiches!
Congratulations, Peter.

John Aldersley congratulates Steve
Gliddon after the Major Singles final

The final of the men's major singles saw the long-awaited shoot-out between two of Gordon's top players in recent years - John Aldersley, the defending champion, and Steve Gliddon, winner for the preceding five years.

A Saturday morning match, played before more spectators than ever seen for a club championship, it was nip and tuck in the early ends until both players approached the 20 shot mark

Then Steve played a succession of brilliant shots to storm home 31-21, his 7th win in the last 9 years. Congratulations to both players on a great match. We look forward to next year - but look out guys for that Rookie champ!
